Military History Study Group  September 27th 2010

The speaker for our Military History meeting on September 27th will be Nick Elmer, an ex Royal Australian Navy and Royal Netherlands Navy officer. Nick will speak to us on the Battle of Salamis. A short description follows....
"The Battle of Salamis, in 480BC, was one of the most important battles in history. The victory by the Greeks under Themistocles insured that Xerxes would be forced to retreat to Persia. The battle would lay the foundation for an Athenian Empire that would come to be called the Delian League.
This battle was fought using various types of galleys and provides a deep insight into how these war machines were employed. "
